What we can improve.
We assess your profile and front view, lower-lip position and the transition to the neck. A chin with limited projection can make the nose appear more prominent, but this does not mean everyone needs both areas changed.
We also review your bite. If the issue involves jaw position or how the teeth meet, assessment by a maxillofacial surgeon or orthodontist may be needed. Cosmetic chin surgery does not replace treatment for a bite problem.
Options and scars.
Options may include an implant to increase projection or a genioplasty that changes the position of your own bone. The choice depends on whether we want to change projection alone or also height, width or asymmetry. We will assess which procedure and team are appropriate for your case.
Your own fat can soften small volume deficits, but it does not have the same effect as moving bone. Incisions may be inside the mouth or beneath the chin, depending on the technique. If you also have fat beneath the chin or concerns about your nose, we will assess their relationship without adding treatments that offer no clear benefit.
What recovery involves.
The first few days
Swelling and numbness of the chin or lower lip are common. If access is through the mouth, we will advise on cleaning and food that does not irritate the wound. Dressings or a chin support, when used, follow specific instructions.
Returning to your routine
Office work may be resumed after one to two weeks for some procedures; bone surgery or combined treatment may need longer. Knocks, lifting and sport are limited until stability and tissue healing have been reviewed.
How the result develops
The profile changes from the outset, but swelling can obscure the shape for several weeks. Sensation and contour are assessed over months. With bone surgery, checks also follow the process of bone healing.

Planning the extent of the change and assessing your bite help us choose the appropriate technique. Keeping incisions clean and avoiding pressure or knocks support recovery.
Infection, differences in shape or changes in sensation can occur, occasionally persisting. An implant may move or need removal; bone surgery can involve healing problems or discomfort from fixation material. These are different situations, explained according to the option being considered.
