Chin and neck liposuction

When fat beneath the chin obscures its transition to the neck, liposuction can help define it. For the change to be worthwhile, we also need to assess your skin and chin projection.

What we can improve.

Fullness beneath the chin can involve superficial fat, skin laxity, chin position or deeper neck structures. Examination distinguishes these components and avoids attributing all fullness to removable fat.

Liposuction offers more possibilities when there is a localised deposit and the skin can still adapt. Substantial excess neck skin or muscle bands may need a different approach. During your consultation, we identify the main component in profile and with head movement.

Options and scars.

Fat is treated with cannulas through small incisions, usually beneath the chin and, depending on the case, near the earlobes. The aim is to refine the transition to the jaw without removing excessive tissue.

Significant laxity may call for a neck lift; limited chin projection is assessed in relation to the contour. Combining procedures is not always advisable: I will explain what each could add and what liposuction alone may achieve.

What recovery involves.

The first few days

Swelling, bruising, tightness or firmness beneath the chin may occur. If a chin support is prescribed, we will explain its fit and how long to use it. Excessive pressure does not speed recovery and can mark the skin.

Returning to your routine

Gentle tasks are usually resumed within a few days, but public-facing commitments may need one to two weeks because of bruising. Sport and strenuous movements wait until the area has progressed sufficiently; do not massage it without advice.

How the result develops

The neck may feel firm for several weeks. The result becomes clearer over the following months as swelling settles and the skin adapts. Follow-up checks whether progress is as expected and allows aftercare to be adjusted.

Safety and possible risks.

Assessing skin elasticity and neck structures helps avoid choosing a treatment that cannot adequately address the concern. Laxity may persist, or small irregularities, differences between the sides or changes in sensation may occur.

We also monitor bleeding, infection and changes in lip movement caused by effects on nearby nerves. Sudden increasing swelling needs assessment. The plan prioritises a proportionate contour, rather than removing every possible amount of fat.

What we will discuss.

  • How much of the volume is superficial fat.
  • How your skin is likely to adapt.
  • What improvement liposuction can offer on its own.

Frequently asked questions.

Will it remove hanging skin?

It does not remove skin. Skin may adapt if it is elastic; significant excess needs assessment for a specific treatment.

Will fullness return if I gain weight?

The remaining fatty tissue can enlarge with weight gain. Keeping your weight stable helps maintain the contour.

Will I need chin surgery?

Only if chin position contributes to the concern and that change matches your aims. It is assessed separately.

Keep exploring.
