Why do 300 cc breast implants look different on different people?

Implant volume is only part of the decision. Chest width, existing breast tissue and skin explain why the same 300 cc can look different.

Cubic centimetres do not describe breast shape

“My friend has 300 cc implants and I like her result. Do I need the same size?” This is a useful question to start a consultation, because it opens a discussion about the change you want. The answer involves more than volume: the same implant can look different depending on the chest, existing breast tissue and overlying skin.

Cubic centimetres measure an implant’s volume. Alone, they do not tell us how far the breast will project, how full the upper breast will look or how it will fit your body’s proportions. Choosing a number first and then trying to make it fit can therefore lead to a decision poorly suited to your starting point.

Your existing breasts also contribute to the result

A patient who already has breast tissue brings that volume to the final shape. Someone with very little breast tissue may have less coverage for an implant. Even if both choose 300 cc, the contour and transition to the chest may differ.

The width of the chest and breast base matter too. An implant proportionate to a narrow breast can occupy a wider base differently. During your consultation, we take measurements to relate implant dimensions to the available space and the change you want to achieve.

Width and projection: two measurements beyond volume

Two implants with the same volume can have different dimensions. Width describes the base they occupy; projection describes how far they extend forwards. Neither is chosen in isolation: both need to suit your tissues.

If you like more fullness in the upper breast, we will discuss this using examples. If you prefer a subtle change or are concerned about looking too full in clothes, we will discuss that too. Turning these preferences into a plan requires looking at the whole picture, not simply comparing a figure in a catalogue.

Skin and areola position can change the plan

When breasts have lost volume but the skin retains a good position, augmentation may be an option. If there is also excess skin and the areola sits low, increasing size does not always resolve your concern. In that case, we assess a breast lift, which raises and reshapes the breast with or without implants.

This distinction matters: trying to compensate for all the drooping by adding volume may not be best for your tissues. Before choosing an implant, we need to understand whether the aim is to increase volume, lift, correct differences between the sides or combine these goals.

How photographs and fitting sessions help

Bring references if pictures make it easier to explain what you want. Point out what you like: the proportions, upper-breast shape, profile or appearance in clothes. A full photograph gives more context than a cropped image of the neckline.

Volume try-ons or simulations, if used, support the discussion about preferences. They do not reproduce exactly how your skin will adapt or how your breasts will develop during recovery. Another person’s result does not predict yours either, even when the technique or volume seems similar.

The question that helps most when choosing

Alongside “How many cc?”, ask: “Why does this implant suit my breasts and the change I want?” The answer should connect your measurements, tissue coverage, breast position and the limitations of the result.

The breast augmentation page explains more about options, recovery and implant follow-up. The consultation aims to take a reference you like and turn it into a reasoned proposal for you.
